Trisha Tubu found herself in disbelief after receiving the Best Opposite Hitter award.
Yet, what began as a moment of shock turned into a source of pride and motivation, thanks to the unwavering support from Farm Fresh Foxies head coach, Shota Sato.
Tubu, a standout from Adamson University, admitted she initially felt the weight of the recognition. "So yun po, medyo na-pressure. Sabi ko kay coach, I’m pressured because of that award," she revealed.
But Sato's words struck a chord, encouraging her to embrace the pressure as a testament to her hard work.
“Sabi nga ni Coach na mahalin ko yung pressure na yun, tapos lagi kong tandaan na deserve ko yun."
The 23-year-old native of Concepcion didn’t just earn the award; she worked tirelessly for it. Leading all local opposite spikers, Tubu racked up 123 points in the import-laden tournament, showcasing her dominance. Her efficiency rate of 36.77 percent further cemented her status as the top local player in her position.
Despite her stellar performance, Tubu remained humble, recalling how she was taken by surprise during the awarding ceremony.
"Actually nagulat lang din po ako nung sinabi sakin ni Ate Kiara na pumunta ka ng awarding," she shared, recalling how team manager Kiara Cruz had urged her to attend.
Unaware of her impending award, Tubu simply thought she was representing her team, only to be greeted with congratulations the next morning.
"Congrats Tubs."
This recognition comes at a pivotal moment for Tubu, who had nine points in Farm Fresh’s tough loss to Kurashiki in their Invitational Conference opener.
Although they fell short with a 13-25, 16-25, 16-25 defeat, Tubu's perseverance and newfound confidence will undoubtedly fuel her as the Foxies aim to build momentum.
Serving as a replacement for Akari and PLDT, the Foxies may have stumbled out of the gate, but Tubu’s journey from being overwhelmed by pressure to embracing her rightful place as one of the best opposite hitters is just beginning.
For the hardworking and high-flying Tubu, this award is more than a trophy—it’s a reflection of her dedication.
“Ipakita ko pa na talagang… at yakapin ko yung award na yun na binigay sakin,” she said, embodying the spirit of an athlete ready to take on whatever challenge comes next.
