Nxled gets an early chance to test its mettle against a battle-tested PLDT side, with the anticipated return of Brooke van Sickle adding intrigue to their marquee showdown in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference Siklab Series on Tuesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Chameleons and the High Speed Hitters collide at 6 p.m. in the main event of a twinbill that promises an explosive clash of firepower, depth and championship experience, as the league shifts to the Big Dome following a rousing season opener in Cebu.
Before that, Farm Fresh and Galeries Tower kick off the action at 1 p.m., with the Foxies’ deeper lineup set to face a Highrisers squad eager to prove it can compete with the league’s more fancied teams.
Sandwiched between the PVL matches is a 3:30 p.m. Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference encounter featuring reigning Open Conference champion Criss Cross, which begins its quest for another title in the men’s division, against AFP.
Sports Vision, the league organizer, has incorporated a Spikers’ Turf match into each PVL playdate as part of its continuing effort to bring men’s volleyball to a wider audience and strengthen the sport’s mainstream appeal.
But the spotlight will be firmly on the Nxled-PLDT showdown, particularly with Van Sickle expected to suit up for the Chameleons after missing the recent Invitationals due to a minor shoulder injury.
A many-time MVP, Van Sickle leads an Nxled roster loaded with talent, including Myla Pablo, MJ Phillips, Jonah Escamillan, Jovelyn Fernandez, Jules Tolentino, Leyann De Guzman, Chiara Permentilla, Djanel Cheng and EJ Cariño. Former Cignal standouts Jackie Acuña and Gel Cayuna provide additional experience and support.
Van Sickle’s return, however, will be tested immediately by a PLDT squad armed with championship pedigree, proven chemistry and considerable depth.
The High Speed Hitters swept the PVL On Tour and Invitational titles last year, establishing themselves as one of the league’s most formidable teams. Although they fell short of another championship in the recent All-Filipino Conference, settling for third place, the setback could serve as added motivation in their pursuit of another crown.
Savi Davison leads PLDT’s charge and looms as Van Sickle’s marquee counterpart in a matchup that could set the tone for the conference. The Fil-Canadian ace has an imposing supporting cast, led by opposite hitter Kim Dy and middle blockers Majoy Baron, Mika Reyes, Dell Palomata and Seth Rodriguez.
Kim Fajardo and Angge Alcantara will share playmaking duties, while premier libero Kath Arado anchors the team’s floor defense.
With firepower at the net, reliable playmaking and a defense capable of sustaining pressure, PLDT has the personnel to spoil Van Sickle’s anticipated return and deny Nxled an early statement victory.
The Chameleons, meanwhile, will look to show that their own talent-laden lineup can stand up to a team accustomed to winning, making the 6 p.m. encounter an early test of both squads’ championship aspirations.

The opening Farm Fresh-Galeries Tower matchup also offers plenty of intrigue, with the Foxies expected to draw strength from their more established lineup while the Highrisers aim to deliver an early surprise.
Farm Fresh boasts league MVP Trisha Tubu, Ces Molina, Royse Tubino, Mylene Rezanova and Riri Meneses, with setter Alohi Robins-Hardy orchestrating the attack.
Galeries Tower, however, is determined to prove that a less-heralded roster need not be an obstacle to success. Aiza Pontillas, Jean Asis, Camille Victoria, Erika Raagas, Gayle Pascual, Shola Alvarez, Alyssa Bertolano, Ann Roselle Asis and Roselle Baliton headline the Highrisers’ campaign, with top rookie pick Lams Lamina expected to direct the offense at setter.
The twinbill follows an eventful opening playdate at the SM Seaside Cebu Arena, where more than 19,000 fans turned out to mark the league’s landmark 10th season.
Choco Mucho rallied from two sets down to stun Capital1 in five sets, while 11-time champion Creamline swept Akari in three, producing contrasting results that underscored the unpredictability of the new competition format.
The PVL’s revamped season features three series – Siklab, Sigla and Sinag – culminating in a grand champion next year.
The ongoing Siklab Series follows a single-round-robin elimination format running through December, with the top four teams advancing to the semifinals. The top two semifinalists will enjoy twice-to-beat advantages, while the championship will be decided in a best-of-three series.
The Sigla Series, scheduled from January to March, will follow the same general format but adopt an all-power system, allowing coaches to field their strongest lineups and deploy their preferred tactics without mandatory rotation rules. This differs from the all-to-play rule applied in the Siklab Series.
Points accumulated in the first two series will be combined to determine the overall standings and seedings for the final Sinag Series, scheduled from March to April.
The top two teams in the cumulative standings will advance directly to the semifinals, while teams ranked third to ninth will compete in play-in and stepladder rounds to determine the other two semifinalists.
The Sinag semifinals will be played in a best-of-three format, with the top overall points earner facing the second team to emerge from the stepladder phase, and the second-ranked team taking on the stepladder’s top qualifier.
