Vander Weide credits Djanel Cheng for her 34-point explosion in Game 1

Lindsey Vander Weide erupted for 34 points in Petro Gazz's 25-21, 27-25, 37-35 escape of Cignal in Game One of the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference best-of-three Finals.

And it was the career-high of the American import who had stints in France, Hungary, and Greece.

Vander Weide's 34 points came from 31 attacks, two blocks, and a service ace laced with eight digs and five excellent receptions.

The 6-foot-2 open spiker is thankful for Angels setter Djanel Cheng, who made it possible for Vander Weide to notch her career-best output.

"The whole game felt great. The energy of the team was excellent today, the setting was superb today so it was easy to put balls away," said Vander Weide, praising the decision-making of Cheng.

"She was putting me in the perfect position."

The Petro Gazz guest player also gave credit to the whole team which held tight during the super extended third set that reached 37.

Vander Weide, Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, Myla Pablo, and Remy Palma steadied down the stretch to put the Angels within reach of the crown.

"Normally, I'm stressed in games where we're super closed in the end," said Vander Weide.

"This game we were so locked in it didn't matter who was up, we were gonna fight back and score and we did that in the second set, in the third set, and that was the most impressive thing for me is how we held up in those moments."
