In a poignant display of solidarity and strength, Nxled honored the memory of May Luna's late mother by donning white ribbons in a gripping victory over sister team Akari during the Premier Volleyball League Second All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday.
Despite the recent loss of Luna's mother just two days before the anticipated clash, the Chameleons rallied together for a deeply emotional performance. Camille Kal, the former La Salle standout, revealed that the team's decision to stay and play in the face of adversity was a heartfelt tribute to Luna's mother.
As Kal prepared to fly to Davao later that day to be with her family, she delivered an inspired performance, propelling Nxled to a 22-25, 25-17, 25-23, 25-16 triumph at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. The victory was not only a testament to their prowess on the court but a symbol of unity and support for their grieving teammate.
Kal emphasized that the entire team dedicated the win to Luna and her family, turning the game into a spiritual and emotional journey. She described the experience as fulfilling, acknowledging that their motivation went beyond the desire to triumph over their sister team.
For Kal, the match held personal significance as she played her best game of the conference, orchestrating 28 excellent sets and contributing eight crucial points. Despite her individual success, Kal humbly redirected the credit to her teammates, emphasizing the collective effort that led to Luna's uplifting victory.
"I just wanna play well for the team and give my spikers the best set that I could. I worked for this every day. I had a lot of hard times, so I had no other goal but to make the job easier for my spikers," shared Kal.
