Yee glad to see Phillips flourish in MB role

Petro Gazz head coach Jerry Yee revealed that it was MJ Phillips' idea to move her to the middle blocker position, Friday.

Yee said that with the team already filled with talented and reliable outside and opposite hitters, the Filipina-American spiker approached him prior to the season with an idea.

And the former Sta. Lucia hitter's willingness to change roles, according to Yee, played a huge part in the switch.

"Nag volunteer naman siya na gusto rin niya mag contribute. Malaking bagay yun e, yung pag vo-volunteer niya so tinry na nating i-habol yung mga moves niya sa middle," said Yee.

The Angels have Myla Pablo, Grethcel Soltones, Nicole Tiamzob, Aiza-Maizo Pontillas, and Jonah Sabete in the roster.

"Unang unang ang dami nating open and meron namang maglalaro ng opposite. Ang kulang talaga kami sa middle," he added.

In her first game as a middle blocker in the PVL, Phillips recorded five blocks en route to 12 points in the 25-14, 25-20, 23-25, 25-21 win over the Water Defenders at the Paco Arena.

Phillips' running attack has always been there said Yee. And it all came down to polishing her other skills.

"Meron naman siya e, given na yung running niya andiyan naman, noon pa naman niya ginagawa yun." (DJ)
