Farm Fresh repeats over Ho Chi Minh, finishes 5th

Farm Fresh closed out its PVL Invitational campaign with two victories – both against the same opponent – as the Foxies once again defeated the Ho Chi Minh City side of Vietnam, 25-10, 25-15, 25-15, to secure fifth place at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Tuesday.

Trisha Tubu unloaded 10 of her 14 points in the opening set, setting the tone for what turned out to be a lopsided affair and allowing the Foxies to finish the tournament on a winning note after dropping their previous four games in the elimination round.

Determined to end the tournament on a high, Farm Fresh unleashed its full might on the Vietnamese side in the opening frame and turned a 9-8 lead into a commanding 19-9 advantage with a blistering 10-1 run en route to take a 1-0 lead.

That dominant opening-set performance proved to be more than enough, as the Foxies carried their momentum into the next two frames and continued to overwhelm Ho Chi Minh City to clinch fifth place.

“Yes, I appreciate the Ho Chi Minh team. This tournament, my team saw no good result. First, I think, I think, [we need to] change the volleyball style. After the last PVL [conference with] import, all team [made a] difference [in] team style,” said Farm Fresh head coach Koji Tsuzurabara, whose wards also turned back the Vietnamese in four last Aug. 31.

“Last year PVL volleyball, and this year’s PVL volleyball style [are different]. So, we need more practice. So, we need to react to the new volleyball. We have to look for new volleyball style. Now, different: one year ago, PVL volleyball, and now volleyball—big difference,” he added.

Ces Molina made 14 points, eight excellent receptions, and seven excellent digs, while Jonna Perdido and Riri Meneses chimed in with 13 and 11 points, respectively, in the quick, 67 minute contest.

Alohi Robins-Hardy dished out 12 excellent sets to go with two points, while Buding Duremdes added 12 excellent digs for the Foxies, whose lone win in the elimination round also came at the expense of Ho Chi Minh City.

It was a dominant all-around performance from Farm Fresh, who thoroughly outplayed Ho Chi Minh City in every facet of the game. The Foxies held a commanding 53-30 edge in attacks, 9-0 in blocks, and 4-3 in aces to complete its straight-set rout.

On the other hand, team captain Dang Thi Kim Thanh and Ho Thi Bich Diep paced Ho Chi Minh City with 10 points apiece in the defeat.
