Despite a shaky start to their 2024 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference campaign with two consecutive losses, the Akari Chargers found redemption in a resounding straight-sets triumph over Farm Fresh, hoping it becomes the turning point in their campaign.
On Tuesday night at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City, Grethcel Soltones, showcased her prowess as she spearheaded the team to a convincing victory with a scoreline of 25-19, 25-15, 25-22.
Soltones, delivering an outstanding performance, contributed 16 crucial points with an impressive spiking efficiency of 13-of-25.
The lefty opposite spiker from San Sebastian also demonstrated her all-around skills, securing two service aces, a block, and making 10 excellent receptions.
Expressing gratitude to the coaches for their unwavering support, Soltones expressed optimism about the team's future, emphasizing the potential she sees within the Chargers.
“Thank you sa coaches kasi parang hindi sila nagsasawa sa amin. I know yung team na ito meron talagang future,” remarked Soltones, who joined Akari in January.
The Chargers, facing early setbacks against Creamline and Cignal, demonstrated resilience by securing a set in each of the previous games.
Soltones, however, highlighted the significance of their entry into the winners' circle, emphasizing the positive team dynamics and connection she has established with her teammates.
“Hindi ako nagb-base sa kung ano yung score ko sa game. I always think na I need to be there to make my teammates happy para magaan lang sa team and nagre-remind lang din,” explained Soltones.
Coach Raffy Mosuela, strategizing for success, revealed a specific focus on the team's blocking prowess after the challenging initial games.
The Chargers executed flawlessly, dominating the blocking department against the Foxies with a commanding lead of 11-2 at the net.
“After ng past two games namin, talagang nag-focus din ako sa pattern namin sa blocking kasi yun ang kailangan namin. Bonus na yung mag block point or ma-rebound,” shared Coach Mosuela, highlighting the strategic adjustments made to enhance Akari's competitiveness in the premier league.
With Soltones leading the charge, Akari aims to build on this victory.
