In a sport where the pressure to perform can sometimes break even the strongest teams, Yeny Murillo stands as a beacon of resilience and hope for Farm Fresh.
The 25-year-old Colombian outside hitter is no stranger to the pressures of international volleyball.
However, her experience with the Foxies has been a testament to the team’s unique spirit and unwavering resolve.
Despite the initial setbacks of their campaign, with Farm Fresh falling in straight sets to Chery Tiggo and battling through a tough four-set loss against Creamline, the Foxies have finally turned the tide.
On Tuesday afternoon, they secured their first victory in Pool A, delivering a thrilling 25-22, 35-37, 23-25, 25-20, 15-10 triumph over Galeries Tower.
For Murillo, this win was not just about the numbers but about the heart and tenacity that the team exhibited.
“You know, I have been with many teams before, and I’ve seen that after one or two losses, teams often start to falter,” Murillo reflected.
“But instead of that, this team keeps improving and shows me that they really want to become better and be better players.”
Her journey through the ranks of international volleyball has been nothing short of remarkable.
From her beginnings in the United States, playing for Arizona Western College and Grand Canyon University, to her professional stints across Europe, Murillo has seen it all.
Her career path took her from Greece’s AO Thiras to France’s Municipal Olympique Mougins Volley-Ball, with stops in Cyprus, Czechia, and back to France with Rennes EC.
Each team and each league added a new layer to her experience, but it is at Farm Fresh that she finds a unique kind of camaraderie and resolve.
With the Foxies now standing at 1-2 in Pool A, Murillo is optimistic about their future prospects.
“We have been working really hard and trying to get in rhythm with each other. I feel like my team needed this win as motivation to keep pushing and improving,” she said. Her contribution was substantial, with 29 points, 16 receptions, and 10 digs, all of which were crucial in their latest victory.
The road ahead for Farm Fresh is both challenging and promising.
They will complete their first-round schedule against Nxled and PLDT, and then, the top three teams from each pool will face off against the bottom three teams from the other pool in the next round.
It’s a rigorous path, but Murillo’s confidence in her team’s ability to rise to the occasion is palpable.
